iTechNow: Educational Technology 541 Final Project
Welcome Fellow explorers & visitors:
My name is Nona Barker, and I am a high school Teacher-Librarian in Rocky Mountain House (Alberta, Canada). iTechNow is home to my Educational Technology 541 Final Project, and the assignments and projects that pertain to it.
Currently, I am a graduate student at Boise State University where I am completing a MET degree. Being a part of this program is a once in a lifetime opportunity! As a life-long learner, I have always wanted to pursue a master's degree, and now it has become a reality.
I also appreciate the fact that many doors are open to me now. Earning a MET takes self-discipline and determination, of course; but I love the fact that the journey is also inspirational as well. This new awakening extends to the classroom too, and that is very important to me as an educator. I want to remain "vibrant" and "alive", and "passionate" about what I do and why I do it!

WHY THE CHERRY TREE?
Depending on the culture, the cherry tree symbolizes different things (power, beauty, love, and new life). Many believe the tree may represent "the transient nature of life", probably because the tree's blossoms only last a week or two. Even though cherry blossoms have a short but beautiful life, the tree itself may live for over 200 years! To me, this stunning tree is the perfect symbol for my life as I know it now. I have been an educator for over 20 years; so teaching, to me, is an extension of who I am. It is a living, breathing twin. Teaching is so much a part of me that it is the centre of my universe -- it is my "tree". To ensure the tree blooms, I must nurture it. How do I do that? Why, by learning and sharing new things, of course.
And here, in the garden, is where I want to be.
Remember: If the experience does not find you -- you must find it!
